Well,  I took Jake to the doctor last night for his regular check-up and to see if there’s anything out there to help with his attention and focus in school. I’ve been putting off medication for so long because it scares me. Years ago he was on Risperdal, but all that did was make him sleepy.

Vyvanse is supposed to work for 12 hours and help his attention. I gave it to him this morning at 8:30 by mixing the conents of the capsule in water. It’s now 9:40 and he is in my bed. He said “I need to rest.” and “I need to take a nap”  I’m happy to hear him use full sentences, but discouraged that he’s sleepy.

I’ll update if there’s any other changes to report since starting this medication.

Ok, It’s now about 1:00. He’s not sleepy anymore, and he’s being pretty quiet.  He doesn’t seem as happy as he usually is, but that could just be me looking for behavior changes.

7:00pm - He did fairly well all day today. However, we got a game in the mail to review (the review will be up after another day or two of him playing it) and he did NOT want to stop playing. He had a bit of a meltdown which he hasn’t done in a long time. I’m not sure if it’s him “coming down” from the medication or just because he was having a great time playing the game. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.

Well today is day three of Jake on this medication. He starts the full dose tomorrow. So far, I don’t like what I see. My normally happy, smiling, laughing kid is, well I dunno….kind of stoic? He is being a lot more quiet and less stimmy, but I’d rather have him happy.  Sigh…. We’ll give it a little more time and see how he does on the full dose.
